Doolittle to Retire
Posted by Michael Link on January 10, 2008 at 03:19 PM
Still under a corruption investigation for his role in a lobbying scandal, Republican Congressman John Doolittle announced he's retiring from Congress at the end of this term.
California Majority Report first reported the item earlier this week, but the story was denied by Doolittle's staff until today when the official announcement was made.
It was only several months ago that Doolittle declared, "I am running again. Period."

The only thing that surprises me about this is the fact that they just keep coming. It's like the Republican party has an unlimited number of dirtbags just waiting to get caught! It's sickening that these people can even attempt to claim the moral high ground.

Any chance to get more Dem bottoms in those seats the Republics are suddenly abandoning? What's the count now, of sudden "retirements"? I've quite lost track...

I think that any congressperson caught in a scandal should automatically be replaced by the candidate receiving the second most votes from the prior election (which would essentially guarantee that each sacndalous repub would be replaced by a Dem). It would be like when Miss America has to give up her crown, the runner-up takes it. So, we wouldn't have winners and losers, but winners and Democrats prepared to take the seat when the Repub gets caught breaking the law.
People would see this, then they would see how much better Congress performed with Dems, then they would just vote Dem.
I wonder what the Repub to Dem scandal ratio is. 10:1? 20:1?

margotb is right on. What surprises me is that the Republican Candidates have the nerve to run on a morals ticket and stay the course foreign policy. Don't they know Bush's foreign policy is a failed policy? The republicans have hurt our economy and our foreign reputation so very badly.
