This is because the republican plan of obstructing everything is working beautifully for them. Look even a Cindy Sheehan that has broke with hre Democratic roots and is planning to run against Speaker Pelosi.

I still think Ms. Sheehan should rethink her position, and if she really wants to run for congress then find a republican she can dump, not splinter the Democratic party.

Britain Will Take Troops out of Iraq Regardless of US, Says PM

Gordon Brown has paved the way for the withdrawal of British troops from Iraq by telling George Bush he would not delay their exit in order to show unity with the United States.
After four hours of one-to-one talks with the US President at his Camp David retreat, Mr Brown told a joint press conference he would make a Commons statement in October on the future of the 5,500 British troops in the Basra region.

The Bush administration, under mounting domestic pressure to produce an exit strategy from Iraq, has been nervous that a full British withdrawal would add to the criticism. But Mr Brown made clear - and President Bush accepted - that Britain would go its own way, even if that gave the impression the two countries were diverging.

President Bush heaped praise on Mr Brown after their first meeting since he became Prime Minister, playing down suggestions that Mr Blair's departure would weaken the strong US-UK partnership. Revealingly, Mr Brown did not return the personal compliments, instead focusing on the historic links between the two countries and predicting they would get even stronger. This reflected his desire for a more business-like relationship with the President, instead of the strong personal bond forged by Mr Blair.

Deliberately avoiding the phrase "war on terror," Mr Brown said: "Terrorism is not a cause but a crime - a crime against humanity

Sen. Ted Stevens (R-Alaska) has survived World War II, a plane crash and 39 years with Sen. Edward M. Kennedy (D-Mass.). But he may not be able to get past the Justice Department.

The 83-year-old dean of Republican senators is facing what may well be the most serious challenge of his long career after the FBI and IRS raided his home in Girdwood, Alaska, on Monday as part of a wide-ranging corruption investigation.

The senator skipped a Commerce Committee hearing Tuesday and spent much of the day ducking or yelling at the press. When he was finally cornered by two reporters in a Senate stairway, the always volatile Alaskan barked that he did not have anything to say about the matter other than his statement Monday.

"I'm not going to say anything beyond that," Stevens yelled as he tried to flee up the staircase.

Stevens is a former Appropriations Committee chairman who never backs down from a fight; he continued to loudly defend the Alaska delegation's "bridge to nowhere" last year even as it became the butt of jokes. Yet he was reduced to humbly explaining himself Tuesday before his Republican colleagues in a closed-door meeting

FBI, IRS Search Home of Sen. Ted Stevens R-Alaska

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — Federal agents searched the home of U.S. Sen. Ted Stevens on Monday, focusing on records related to his relationship with an oil field services contractor jailed in a public corruption investigation, a law enforcement official said.

Stevens, 83, has been under a federal investigation for a 2000 renovation project more than doubling the size of his home in Girdwood that was overseen by Bill Allen, a contractor who has pleaded guilty to bribing Alaska state legislators.

Under the heading of "you can't make this up" you can file this...a right wing group excuses Libby because the 10 commandments are not in courthouses...and a principal of a performing arts school says they can't do the play D*mn Yankees because the D word won't look right on brochures to advertise.

Stevens is a disgrace to American politics. The people of Alaska should replace him, but they won't because he brings home so much pork in "midnight" earmarks. I hoep he rots in jail for the rest of his miserable life!!!!

The Democrat party is splintered, and the only way it can be re-united is by firing the Republi-lite sell-outs who are working for K-street and not for the American people.
The sooner the Democratic Party gets back to grass roots populism, the better it and our country will be.
Cindy Sheehan got fed up with the BS and started acting on it. More Democrats need to start doing that.
Don't forget, Pelosi is the person who is trying to convince the rest of us that "impeachment is off the table". Horse Hockey!!!!

Democratic infighting will not help advance the causes of the Democratic Party. I am sure Cindy Sheehan has been fed up ever since that fate day that her son was killed in Iraq, and possibly when he was even sent over there, but splintering the party more will not help.

It would help for Cindy Sheehan to use her grassroots populism to defeat a Republican. After ridding as many of them from office as possible we may then look to fine tuning the Party's principles by ridding the party of the blue dog suckers. First things first!

As for impeachment, investigate, investigate, investigate, and said investigations will impeach the administration in the minds of the American people. However, right now there are much more pressing issues. I'm sorry to disagree here, and understand your opinion completely, but I must stand with the Congressional leadership on this one. At least until the smoking gun appears, then, bring down the White House of cards.

How many smoking guns do you need? We've had Plamegate, Abramoff, conspiracy to deny US citizens the right to vote, negligent homicide in the case of Katrina, an attack on the Constitution of the United States, refusal to cooperate with the Congress of the United States in the investigation of possible crimes, manipulation of intelligence information in the deliberate attempt to unilaterally start a war.
Shall I go on?
It will do the party no good to continue to listen to Republi-lite sell-outs who keep kissing up to the K-street party line and falling in with Bush and refusing to call him to task for trying to destroy our government and our way of life.
The only way we can start to clean up our government and restore our rights is to impeach Bush/Cheney and put some daylight on the corruption in this administration.
