New Targets

We're on to a new session - it's all about targeting - i.e. deciding who we are going to spend our resources on, and where we are going to do it.
Parag Mehta, our Director of Training, is discussing new ways of targeting - of the importance of talking to everyone, everywhere - and not just relying on swing voters.
Things I've Been Reminded Of This Afternoon:
- Neighbor-to-Neighbor is the most effective, important communication that can come out of a campaign or state party. Talking to people who you grew up with, live near and see on a daily basis means so much more than sending a stranger to do the job.
- It's important to talk to everyone. Old-school targeting, which looks at past performance, means you cut out a large portion eligble voters - like new voters, young voters, or new members of your community.
- Sometimes the larger goal isn't just to win - because some precincts won't cross into the blue in a single cycle, but you can move them closer to that goal, and you can help add votes from your precinct, to help reach state-wide goals.
It's been an interesting session, a lot of math, too many acronymns, but a good reminder of why we need a 50-State Strategy.

Tracy,
This is important, we need to get our message out every way possible since the MSM is not picking it up. However, PLEASE be aware that a lot of Republicans who are upset about this administration are coming here!
The DNC needs to have someone on this blog that can answer questions and sorta be a "welcoming committee" to those who come here looking for answers!
IMPEACH CHENEY FIRST
IMPEACH MONKEY BOY NEXT
We had a "targeted" area based on geographic of voters in the primary election. We also looked at data of voter turnout as well as watching what issues that was to be placed on the ballot that would generate interest. Field Operations worked with each county in our district (16 counties in the 18th congressional of OH) to determine what were the best ways to reach voters. Some counties preferred direct mail, others signs, while others a media piece. We also had specific phone banking messages done by people well known in the communities.
We are hoping to get former Sen. John Glenn to work with Zack Space. Sen. Glenn is from Muskingum Co. one of the counties in our district. I thought something catching, like, "Glenn and Space! Fearless pioneers for all generations."
I also used tools available to anyone wishing to purchase voter lists from their board of elections asking for special age groups...those 17 year old voters who got to vote in their first candidate only primary and those of golden years, to send a specific mailer piece on medicare/medicaid.
Work it, Zack Girl style. ;)
I also attended quite a few village council & township trustee meetings that were held by mostly democratic office holders and spoke on behalf of Z. We will be traveling throughout the district with our message to these and other civic organizational meetings as well.
How does one make a recommendation to the DNC to donate to specific candidates?
I've been posting about Zack Space, Democratic nominee that will take on Bob Ney, for over 6 months now. (and worked my democratic ass off too!) We proved that dedicated grassroots efforts win!
Ours will be one of the most watched campaigns this year.
The door to door sounds like a great idea, (plus I heard that was how Santorrum won, was going door to door).
The problem seems to be, I heard Limbaugh chiding the effort one day, saying "yeah, whoopee, they only have another 120 million doors to go!"
We have to enlist more volunteers the next time we have an effort like this. Maybe we can recruit volunteers from Blue States like mine to drive with others to some Red States that really need it.

Now there is an idea. Teaming up with our retired who are still popular. Great idea, Medley.

Pam, if Limbaugh is ridiculing the idea, then we know it's working; and they're afraid.
If I lived in Florida, I'd love to canvass his neighborhood...every damn day. He might get so worked up, he'd mention it on his program and ask for help. "Moma, they're picking on me." Free publicity and the fright factor to boot.
I still think about that Chicago group that dared to send a busload of protestors across the county to Rove's home and knock on his door. I bet the White House set up a Secret Service preimeter around it now....will it stay up if he's indicted? Should we write letters to the editor asking when he's indicted?

War in Iraq
Mike Callaghan will defend our country in its fight against terrorism. Mike will never take a back seat to the Republicans in defending this country. He will demand swift action and hold our leaders accountable.
Mike believes we need to work towards a quick resolution in Iraq that includes a detailed withdrawl plan. We pray for and honor our men and women who have admirably served our country. Our top priority should be creating and executing a solid plan of action to bring families home. The best way to ensure an end to this war is to elect Democrats to Congress.

Primary victory
On May 2, 2006, Space won the Democratic primary for the House seat now held by Bob Ney, defeating three other Democratic candidates:
Jennifer Stewart, a Zanesville, Ohio native who is the vice-president of the Ohio State Board of Education, an active community member, and a former teacher.
Joe Sulzer, the mayor of Chillicothe, Ohio, a former State Representative, and candidate for the seat in 1992, who was considered the frontrunner.
Jeff Woollard, a training consultant, technical writer, and former automotive engineer.
Space received 39 percent of the vote. Stewart received 25 percent, Sulzer 24 percent and Applegate received 11 percent.
General election
Ney said much of the primary campaign was focused on attacking him, and said he will attempt to bring the campaign back to the issues. "It has to get back to issues," he said. “We are going to run an aggressive campaign. ... We are going to stick to the issues and show the difference between me and Zack Space."
