West Virginia

From Governor Dean:
Today we join Americans all over the country in sending our thoughts and prayers out to the brave families and loved ones of the twelve coal miners who perished in the Sago coal mine in Tallmansville, West Virginia. Our hearts go out to this community which has suffered a tragic loss after a harrowing experience. The one blessing in this tragedy has been the rescue of a single miner.
Through it all, West Virginians have showed a tremendous sense of support and community. It is this same sense of community and togetherness that will help West Virginians through these tragic events.
How terribly tragic. Like so many Americans, when I finally laid my head to rest yesterday evening, I did so under the impression that all but one of the miners had miraculously survived. As I said my evening prayers, I let my thoughts drift to that one family whose loved one didn't make it, unable to even begin to comprehend what they were feeling at that moment. And then we all woke up together to the terrible news, that in fact only one had survived. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families and friends of loved ones lost in West Virginia.

i truly pray that comfort will come to the families of the coal miners that did not make it out safely
i hope their questions are answered soon about the mine safety, and who is to be held accountable for this tragedy

How many cut backs have the Republicans made to the Mine Safety and Health Administration? It's another agency that tries to keep Big Business from messing over the working guy, which would make it a prime target for the Bushies. Are the Democrats going to start the questions going? Loudly, please.

Bush canceled most of the regulations that Clinton had put in place to save our people from danger and polution. Bush said, Let the Corporations regulate themselves, they aren't children

Shame on you. Shame on anyone looking for ANY opportunity in the loss of these men. This isn't George Bush's fault anymore than it is yours or mine. Open your mind and your eyes to read that it was most likely a lightning strike that set this off. I'm embarassed to be a democrat when I hear these type of attacks. Shame on you.

What is so touching is the note that one of the miners left, where he said "It wasn't bad. I just went to sleep." When I went to sleep last night, I did so thinking what it would be like to do so knowing you were not ever going to wake up in the morning. May he and his 11 fellow miners rest in piece.

Apparently the people of West Virginia are a bunch of Godless, stupid, heathens.
At least that’s what the Rob Schenck of the National Clergy Council (http://www.nationalclergycouncil.org/index.htm : info@faithandaction.org) has said about the West Virginians who prayed for miners trapped in the Sago mine.
"We often turn to God only when we feel like nothing else can be done," Schenck notes. "And, in the Bible, God rebuked nations who only turned to Him in their most extreme moments of need." But sadly, the Christian activist observes, "That has been our tradition in the United States. Whenever we find ourselves in a situation where we get to the end of our own resources, we turn to God."
So, to the West Virginians who were devastated by this tragedy, my heart goes out to you, but the National Clergy Council’s hate goes out to you.
