The Maine Event

Posted by on November 1, 2005 at 07:11 PM

What does Howard Dean and Jimi Hendrix have in common? They have both headlined at the Lewiston Armory. The Gov and I were in Maine last Saturday for the state party's annual Jefferson-Jackson dinner and over 500 people braved the cold and rain to attend the event.

The highlight of the evening was the auction of an autographed poster signed by Maine's Governor, John Baldacci, both Congressmen, the state party chair and Governor Dean. Bidding started at $200 and finally sold for $1,000. I tried to get our press guy, Damien, to place a bet on the kayak that was also auctioned off, but he was concerned that it might not fit in the overhead bin on the flight home.

A special thanks to Speaker Pat Colwell, Maggie Allen, Rich Pelletier, Ramona du Houx and the rest of the staff and volunteers for working their butts off and for helping us get to the airport on time. The only disappointment? I didn't get any lobster. Oh well, next time.

Ya know, just out of curiousity, how does Dr. Dean travel around the country?

I support Dr. Dean and wish him constant success, but I am just curious.

I do wish he would have or hold townhalls that are not scripted and allow for us common folk to attend here in Santa Barbara.

The governator was here last month and held the entire thing in secret. He also refused to allow questions.

This, perhaps could be our biggest secret weapon to regain control. Total and complete openness with all commers being allowed to ask questions.

ALL OF THEM.

I don't have statistics to prove it, but I believe Governor Dean has had more accessible speeches and more question and answer sessions then any other party leader in my lifetime, and he's only been in the position for less than a year! Governor Dean tries to be as accessible to as many dems as possible and in doing so only has a limited amount of time that he can spend in each location. As a result he can't open each speaking engagement to questions and answers. Just four days ago he was in Sutter California marching with the care givers who were striking the California Pacific Medical Center: http://biz.yahoo.com/prnews/051028/sffv001.html?.v=12. Too bad you missed him! If you keep up with Google News keyword: Howard Dean, you can hear about upcoming California events that you will be able to hear him speak and meet with him. California is a popular spot for many politicians to come and visit.
Good Luck in catching him at an upcoming event.

Take their words and use them against them. Like they claim they went to war with Iraq because Clinton said, Saadam used WMD on his people and he would use them again on his neighbors. Does that make the Republicans fit to govern if all they can do is take Clintons words and decide that is reason to go to war? Was that a different time line and wasn't Clinton trying to get permission from Saadam to send the inspectors in? Does the render the GOP unfit to lead except Criminals and immoral rogues?
